Gmail account disabled : nightmare with Gmail

Gmail account disabled : nightmare with Gmail

I got my gmail acount back
I got my gmail account back

Gmail is the best web mail I have ever used and I’m using it for more then 3 years, most of my important accounts is connected to Gmail.
probably you should reconsider reading my article   on Your gmail is hacked: crosscheck
Tonight when I was sleeping one of my friend called me to say your Orkut account is gone and I was shocked as I have used orkut extensively in past few years.
I opened my Gmail account and the message which i got is “your Gmail account is blocked”
I started feeling numb at the very moment because I know the consequences of loosing my primary account, I tried logging into my other Google services that includes blogger , Google analytics, Google webmaster tool
everything was gone for me. 🙁
I emailed Google about it then and there and they returned with an email which asked me to provide the details of my account so that they can look into the issue,
By that time I have lost my hope of getting back my account and the only thing which I was looking for an answer from them ” WHY my account?”
I almost submitted that form probably 5 times in which I had to submit lots of thing like time when I created my account, frequently emailed user and lots of other details which only an account holder can know.
finally after 5 hrs I got a reply from Gmail team saying I can now reset my account as it has been activated.
  • The things which scared me after I realized that I lost my gmail account:
  • Lost control over lots of account which is related to my Google account
  • Lost contact to so many people/friends whom I get in touch via email/IM
  • Lots of Email important one
  • I’m about to join accenture and the only mode of communication is Email.
There are many which I don’t need to explain because I’m sure you can think of   whats the feeling of a common person who lost his email account.
My sincere thanks to Google team for reactivating my account back.

Confession of a Blogger

Confession of a Blogger

Today, I’m writing this article to make a confession about a mistake which I made unintentionally at the start of my blogging journey. I would like to say that it might hamper my reputation, but since my readers are my asset, I do not want them to make the same mistake which I made few years back.  I also want to confess to get rid of the guilt.

As you might be aware, initial days of blogging are always full of mistakes. We try to learn from each and every of our mistake. However, there are some mistakes which one should not make no matter what. In this post, I want to confess  such mistake. Here it goes:
I created my first free BlogSpot blog in 2007 when I was in final year of my college. My sole aim was to collect useful information from the web and assemble them on my blog for my own reference. I used to copy interesting articles from different websites (plagiarism).I was unaware of Adsense and how Bloggers make money. I was a newbie blogger and had no idea about RSS, traffic or monetization of a blog. I did not have an idea that it might hurt the page ranking of other Bloggers. It was an innocent mistake which I was doing unknowingly. It was the first mistake of my blogging journey.
I got to know about my mistake, when I got a mail from one of the blog admin, Nirmal from Life Rocks. He was not offended and sincerely asked me to remove the posts which I have copied from his site ( I deleted the entire blog post). I still remember one powerful sentence in his mail that made me confess today is “You are stealing the post.”
Yes, I was stealing posts, but I was not monetizing it. I did it to share knowledge with all my readers but my approach was very wrong. Also, being a newbie blogger, I had no idea about copied content is illegal.
However, now I’m at a stage that I earn a handsome amount of $ every month because of blogging, but needed to make this confession before I spend a single penny of that money. Today, I can proudly say that each and every post of bloggingstatics is my creation and in every post, I have given my best. I learned from my mistake which motivated me to confess my sin today.
Friends, this post, is for all those who are still into copying stuff or stealing ideas (Plagiarism ). Stop doing it now else one day you might say sorry for the things you are doing now.
Your brain is your workshop, think of something which is original or present idea in a way that no one has ever thought of presenting. If you like creating an archive of best and interesting posts from the web, the good idea is to use Social bookmarking sites like Delicious, Stumbleupon.
Create your identity by writing something that will make you feel great. This will also help your blog to grow and create a brand of yours. If you are unaware of other common mistakes, I recommend you to read following articles:
  • You will realize soon that when you write, write for yourself first. If you can’t write for yourself, how can you expect 1000 of readers to read your article?
And in the end, it’s all about creating your identity as a Blogger.

Best Online Sites to Compress your URL

Best Online Sites to Compress your URL

URL’s are getting short day by day, people like to say things within 140 character on Twitter and that’s where these URL compressor sites come into the picture.
There are many online Web services, which let you compress your URL. You can use any of them, and here I’m creating a list of all such websites which you can use to shorten your URL.
It’s not an extensive list, but I’m using some of the best on the web, that you can use.
URL Compressor
Update: Twitter now offers their own URL shortening service which is not open for public. When ever you tweet any thing on Twitter, it will be compressed using T.co shortener. Infact, now many online services like Zite, Pulse offer their URL shortener. If you are a Blogger, you can use Yourls to create your own URL compressor site.

List of URL Compressor site:

In this post I’m giving the Other Link Shorten URL which will make your work more handy.
Goo.gl:
Google URL shortener
Let me start with official Google URl shortener service call Goo.gl. This is useful when you need extra details like where your link is clicked, link referrals, browser and system details. Very useful but again, don’t use it to compress your spam links. You can use Goo.gl service here.
Bit.ly URL Compressor: (Affiliates should not use this link shortener)
bitly URL compressor
One of my favorite service in the list as it offers API and you can easily use it with third party apps like Tweetdeck, Bufferapp and many more. I have been using it for a while and it offers detailed information regarding your compressed URL’s. They also offer one Chrome extension, which will make your work easier. I recommend you to create an account on Bit.ly, as most of Twitter related Web services, allow you to use Bit.ly URL service and your link will be shortened using their service. Check out bit.ly
Note: It’s not recommended for Affiliate marketers to use bit.ly.
OwlY
This is another popular URL compressor site by social media company Hootsuite. The tool is simple to use, as you can see in above screenshot, add your Long Url and click on Shrink to get a short URL.
The Unique thing about this service is that, you can choose your new shorten URL between 4 different domain and use which ever you like.Above all It’s Spam Free.
Yep The URl:
The Most Interesting part about this URL is it’s name and it’s easy and quick to use.
For now, these are the few online services which I can think of, but if you are aware of other services, do let me know via comments. Especially, if you are looking to hide your affiliate links using any of these sites, I recommend you to avoid it, as most of time affiliate links are marked as spam. Instead use Gocodes plugin in WordPress, which is free and easy to use.
There are many more URL compressor sites available online, but I would recommend to stick to above three. As they are never been marked as spam links, and you will have no issues while sharing shrink-ed link to your social media platform.

OpenDNS : Change DNS server to Improve Internet Speed

OpenDNS : Change DNS server to Improve Internet Speed

When ever we need fast Internet connection, we usually opt for a broadband connection which offers higher speed and it’s a good practice. Though, very few people are aware of the fact that at times, even using Faster broadband connection you might not get great speed. Specially, in the case when you are browsing or using torrents. This usually happens because of DNS (Domain name system) provided by your ISP. One, easy way to get rid of this scenerio is by using Public DNS servers like OpenDNS or Google DNS. We have also, talked about DNS benchmark which let you test which DNS will help you to improve internet speed and today, we will look into open DNS.

What is OpenDNS:

Open DNS is a service which offers free and premium DNS for any organization or individual to enhance security. Their prmium DNS helps you to load pages faster and also avoid loading malicious pages. Open DNS comes with many features like, Domain blocking, typo correction, secure DNS and offers botnet protection.
OpenDNS
In simple word, if you are using default DNS provided by your ISP, you should switch to Open DNS and give it a shot. I have been using it on my computer from long time and at time I try Google DNS too, when I change location. Specially, from an individual perspective, Open DNS helps in securing your computer by blocking those sites which are malicious in nature. Also, if you are struggling with page loading failed issue or opening a web page take ages, despite of broadband connection, using Open DNS will solve your problem. They maintain a big chunk of DNS cache, which helps in faster query and helps in improving internet speed.
Ex: Just to give you an overview DNS do name resolution, that is when you type  It resolves the website name into the server IP address and that’s how site opens at your end.But sometime the DNS provided by your ISP couldn’t do name resolution effectively because of low cache size and the server is not powerful enough to take care of all the queries and that’s the reason you face the website could not be found error message.
You can come over this problem by using Open DNS. According to wiki page an Open DNS is DNS resolution for consumers and businesses as an alternative to there Internet service provider ISP. The open DNS is fast because there servers are located at major location and they maintain large size of domain name cache.
Open DNS offers premium and free service and for normal  home user like you and me, free DNS I.P is good enough. Here are current open DNS I.P, which you can use and change your DNS settings to them:
  • 208.67.222.222
  • 208.67.220.220
Use this DNS address to speed your internet. Enter these DNS address in your network connection settings as shown in the image:
Open DNS settings
Well, as I mentioned it works best with Certain ISP which DNS is not that strong and failed to load pages most of the time. I’m an Airtel broadband user, but I prefer to use OpenDNS instead of using default Airtel DNS. You can learn more about them on official openDNS site.
Do let us know, if using public DNS servers, helped you to boost speed of your internet connection?

Auto Follow Twitter Users Using This Awesome Twitter Service

How I Unfollowed Users Not Following Me On Twitter

One thing which always creates a topic of discussion is how to auto follow Twitter users. Social media experts suggest it’s a good practice to follow back new followers.
On the other hand, many experts also say it’s good to maintain a Twitter profile where you follow only selected and targeted users.
Twitter is one of the most active social networks and if you connect with right people, not only you will amplify your reach but you will also be seen as power Twitter user. Back in days, people used to Autofollow new followers, which I believe is a lame practice and something you should avoid doing. If you goal is just to grow your number of Twitter followers, you may ignore my above suggestion.
Now, before you follow my steps and unfollow everyone who is not following you back on Twitter, let me throw some light on what kind of users you should unfollow.
Generally, I follow official twitter profile of other blogs (to stay updated with their latest post), influencers ( to stay updated with interesting tweets), and people whom I meet online or offline, or people I wish to connect. Sometimes many of these individuals don’t reciprocate and miss out on making a genuine connection. It’s a good idea to unfollow these users and try to make a connection with them later on. Of course, you should wait for few months or at least few weeks before you unfollow these people.
When I Joined Twitter, I started adding friends on a regular basis and at the end, I was following almost 2K people and only 100 were following me. Now the first thing that I wanted to do was to remove people who were not following me. So, I decided to find an online tool that can quickly let me unfollow people who do not follow me.
I use this free service call Crowdfireapp (Previously Justunfollow) which is more than a tool to unfollow people who are not following you back. In the below tutorial, I will show you how to use Crowdfireapp to unfollow non-followers.

How to use Crowdfireapp to Unfollow Non-followers

The internet has provided us with the opportunity to share our thoughts with millions of people around the world. This kind of exposure has motivated a lot of people to create blogs and other websites where they can share their ideas and talk about the topics they like with other people, through the internet. As the internet is able to connect people, regardless of where they live in the world, a lot of businesses have also made use of this opportunity for promoting themselves. Those of you who have a website, know how difficult it is to properly run a website and make it rank higher. There are millions of websites present on the internet, and that is why there is a lot of competition. Site analytics tool helps in getting details information about your visitors like traffic sourcereader demographic, browser used, bounce rate and many more which is very crucial for every blog and websites. Getting to know about the number of visitors on your web site and which pages were viewed the most can be a lot of help when you want to improve the website that you have. So, how can you obtain a detailed statistic about the visitors who visit your website?
The answer to this question is simple. You can obtain a detailed statistic about the traffic your website gains through Google Analytics.

Google Analytics

If you are completely new to GA, Google analytics is a service offered by Google to get detailed insight on your site traffic. Details like how people found the website that you have, which pages they visited. This way, you can get an idea about how you can improve your website in order to get more traffic and make the visitor experience better. As many of you, who have a website, have advertisements on them, getting to know how you can attract more internet visitors can help you earn more money from your website.
Google Analytics
There are a lot of things which you can get to know from GA. You can see from which various sources you got your visitors, meaning whether the visitors you got were from search engines, pay-per-click networks, website links in PDF documents, or through e-mail marketing. You can even see which advertisements are performing well and, which are not. You can even get to know the sales you have made through the website and know about other commerce-rated statistics. Though to configure advance analytic, you may need to set parameters and custom rules, which we will discus in coming days.

How Google Analytics Work:

All of this talk about various website statistics must have made you curious to know about how Google Analytics can do all of this. Not to worry, as I’ll explain its working in the easiest way as possible.
As mentioned earlier, GA tracks how visitors interact with the website that you have. GA can tell you from where these visitors came from, what they did when visiting the website, and if they completed the conversion goals present on the site. All of this information is collected by Google Analytics through a first-party cookie and a JavaScript code. It also tracks e-commerce data and lets you know about the performance about your advertising campaigns.
Traffic details
The thing which I like about Google Analytics is that all the statistical data is presented in a very easy-to-read manner, and you even get to see visual reports, which make, understanding the data easier.
Features of Google analytics:
Analytics give detailed information regarding how your web pages are performing and how users are interacting with them. Google also added Social signals, which has become one of the biggest search engine metric in post panda SEO world.
Analysis Tool
The Analysis Tool present in GA is very useful. It enables you to get the data you need. It provides you with the statistical reports concerning the website you run. The intelligence of GA is such that it automatically lets you know about significant changes to the visitors your website has received. It even allows you to create powerful filters and segmentations of visits.
Content Analytics
This feature allows you to know about the top content present on your website. You will also get to know how many people visit the pages of your website, and how long they stay on your website or a certain page. You even get to know what visitors are searching for. You can also fix the problem of slow loading webpages. You even get to know about the best places to place your ads on the website.
Mobile Analytics
This feature allows you to measure mobile apps, websites and visits you receive from web-enabled mobile devices. This is important these days, as people have been moving to smartphone and smartphone browser contributes a lot into current visitors.
Conversion Suite
You get to know about how all your digital marketing channels work together in order to bring visitors to your website. You can keep track of the sales made, downloads you got or other things that are of importance for you. You can get to know why some visitors buy things from you and why others don’t and such a way you can make your website better.
Adsense and Analytic integration:
If you are using Adsense to monetize your Website,  GA will give detailed information regarding how your pages and adsense is performing. (How to link)You can find out top performing and least performing pages and make adeqate changes to increase adsense earning. For Adsense Bloggers, I also suggest to read my Adsense guide for boosting your revenue.
Advertising Analytics
We all work as hard as we can in order to attract as many visitors as we can to the websites that we have. We also place ads on our websites in order to make money. However, it is very helpful if we get to know if the ads that we have placed are making money for us or not. This feature allows you to select better keywords and create effective landing pages. This feature also tells you how effective your ad campaigns are and how you can make them more profitable for yourself.
Real time visits:
Analytics real time tracking
Last year, GA also integrated real time visitor tracking feature in GA. This feature is enabled by default and if you are using any paid analytics tools for getting infromation regarding live visitors, Google analytics will be very useful to save your money.
Read: Google Analytics Premium and Real time analytics
There are just some of the features of GA and there are many more. Using Google analytics or any stats program is an essential for any Webmasters. If you are completely new to GA, here is a training video which will give you more details information regarding How to use Google analytics and how you can set up:
One of the most common myth related to GA is: People believe that Google uses analytics data to define your search ranking, but it’s not true. As Analytic gives statistical data related to web pages. You can use it to improve your ranking for example, you can find pages with maximum loading time, bounce rate, less avg. time on page and enhance them to make it better.
In short, if you have been using any other stats program apart from GA, I suggest you to give it a shot and see how this detailed stats will help your site to grow. All the reports give an in-depth analysis about the working of a website, and you can use the reports to make your website the best it can be. You can learn more about Google Analytics by taking their IQ lessons.

How To Take Complete Backup of BlogSpot blogs?

How To Take Complete Backup of BlogSpot blogs?

blogspot backupBlogSpot is one of the top free blogging platform but it comes with many limitations.  One of the biggest limitation is, Google owns the control of your blog. Google owns the right to delete your blog at any point of time. This usually comes when you are using your blog for spamming or for any other activities which violates BlogSpot TOS. Probably that’s one of the reason, I keep suggesting people to go for self hosted WordPress blog.
One thing which you can do apart from following BlogSpot guideline is taking a periodic backup of your BlogSpot blog. This will ensure that if something goes wrong with your blog in future, you can always restore your data and posts.

Taking backup of BlogSpot blog:

Any BlogSpot blogger can take a complete backup of blogspot posts, comments by using export feature of BlogSpot blog. Backup will be done in the format of .xml format, and you can store it on your local desktop. Unfortunately, this is more of a manual process, and depending upon how often you update your blog, you should take backup weekly or monthly.
Backup BlogSpot blog
A good idea is to take a backup of your customized blogSpot template at regular interval. This will solve two major problem:
  • If your blog get deleted, you will have a complete back up of your theme.
  • If anytime, while playing with template code, you made some blunder, you can quickly restore the template from your backup files.
I also recommend you to keep the backup files either on Google drive or on Dropbox, so you can access it from anywhere. Do let me know what method you are using to take backup of your Blog?
